The disturbing scene was discovered in an unlicensed funeral home in Manila. Multiple bodies were stacked in a room without proper equipment or permits.
The Manila local government along with the Department of Social Welfare (MDSW), Bureau of Permits, Sanitation Division, and the Special Mayor’s Reaction Team led the inspection at Body & Light Funeral Services on Abad Santos Avenue.
The operation followed a directive from the city government after receiving complaints from nearby residents.
What shocked the team was a hidden door behind large drums. Inside, they found a room being used as a morgue, where ten bodies were poorly stored—some already showing signs of decomposition. The funeral home lacked proper refrigeration, raising serious health concerns.
Worse, children were found living inside the facility, putting them at risk of exposure to chemicals used for embalming. Officials stressed that this was a direct violation of child protection policies and posed a serious threat to the children’s safety and well-being.
The establishment was operating without any business or sanitation permits. It was found to be set up more like a residential space than a proper funeral home. The woman who claimed ownership insisted it was only meant to serve as an office and not a morgue.
However, evidence found on-site contradicted her claims. The bodies were immediately transferred to a licensed funeral home. Some were already decomposing due to the absence of proper storage facilities like freezers.
The funeral home has been shut down, and legal actions are now being prepared against the owner for multiple violations. Residents and officials alike were disturbed by the discovery, calling for stricter monitoring of similar establishments in the city.
