Amid Tirades, Senator Imee Marcos Denies Feud w/ PBBM, First Lady, House Speaker
Senator Imee Marcos denied that there is a family feud between her and President Bongbong Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
It surprised many people that amid feud between the Duterte and the Marcos families, Sen. Imee Marcos sided with former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. According to her, she cannot accept what was done to the former Chief Executive.
Senator Imee Marcos stood by the Duterte’s in the controversial arrest and transfer of custody of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands. According to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte is thankful to Sen. Imee.
The Senator led an investigation in the Senate over the arrest and the transfer of custody of the former Chief Executive to the ICC. She also submitted her findings to the Ombudsman and asked for the investigation of several officials who played key roles in the arrest of the former President.
During the May 2025 Midterm Elections campaign period, the Senator left the senatorial slate endorsed by her brother, Pres. Bongbong Marcos. She also claimed that the government is allegedly not led by a Marcos but by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
According to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte believes that the friendship of Senator Imee Marcos with her is “sincere”. The Presidential Sister has also went to The Hague at least twice and she has even met the ICC lawyer of the former President, Nicholas Kaufman.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte endorsed the senatorial bid if Sen. Imee Marcos who clinched in the 12th spot of the Senate Magic 12. Recently, the Senate decided over the Supreme Court ruling on the impeachment complaint against the Vice President. The high court declared the Articles of Impeachment against Duterte as “unconstitutional”.
Senator Imee Marcos voted for the archiving of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s impeachment complaint. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, during the Kapihan sa Senado, the Senator denied having a family feud with her brother, Pres. Bongbong Marcos, her sister-in-law, First Lady Liza Marcos, and her maternal cousin, House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
“Wala namang personal dito… Walang family feud. Ang issue talaga ay politika at prinsipyo na maraming naghihirap sa ating taumbayan,” the Senator said.
Based on the report, Senator Imee Marcos also stressed that she is a member of the Duterte bloc in the Senate. She also jokes about dropping the “Romualdez” name which she shares with the House Speaker as her mother and his father are siblings.
“Duterte bloc ako, diba? Ako ‘yung Marcos na Duterte, hindi ko maintindihan. Marami akong apelido ngayon. Pwera lang Romualdez muna, ha? Nagpa-umanhin na muna ako sa nanay ko,” Senator Imee said.
Following the decision of the Senate, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte “thanked God” according to Sen. Imee Marcos. Nineteen (19) senators supported the motion to archive the impeachment case while only four (4) senators opposed it.
