Billionaire Enrique Razon Sues Cong. Kiko Barzaga at least P110 Million for Alleged Cyberlibel
KIKO BARZAGA – The Cavite 4th District Congressman vowed to personally say sorry to billionaire Enrique Razon who filed a cyberlibel complaint against him.
Barzaga hooked the spotlight amid the flood control mess for being vocal against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the administration. Currently, he is under a suspension ruled by the House of Representatives.
It was last December when the House suspended Cong. Kiko Barzaga for 60 days due to his “offensive” social media posts. His suspension is set to expire this February but there is reportedly a looming 2nd ethics complaint to be filed against him.
Previously, Barzaga called for Marcos Jr. to step down from his position. He even led a rally to call for the resignation of the President. He also previously claimed that he supposedly has an impeachment complaint against the President.
However, amid his being vocal, Cavite 4th District Cong. Kiko Barzaga earned a cyberlibel complaint filed by billionaire Enrique Razon against him. The ports and casino magnate filed the cyberlibel case after Barzaga claimed that Razon allegedly bribed several congressmen for the retention of former House Speaker Martin Romualdez in the top position in the lower chamber.
Enrique Razon sues Cong. Kiko Barzaga for at least P110 million — P100 million in moral damages and P10 million in exemplary damages. According to the Billionaire’s camp, the Congressman’s claim damaged his reputation and caused him emotional distress.
According to Razon, the accusation of Barzaga against him “crossed the line from political speech into criminal defamation”. Recently, the young Congressman spoke on the cyberlibel complaint filed by the businessman against him.
Based on a report on Inquirer, Cavite Cong. Kiko Barzaga vowed to personally say sorry to billionaire Enrique Razon amid the cyberlibel complaint filed against him by the businessman. He admitted that his accusations were fueled by a personal grudge.
Speaking at the TNT podcast of columnist Ramon Tulfo and lawyer Clint Aranas, Kiko Barzaga admitted that he has a “personal” regret over the matter. According to him, he developed a grudge against the billionaire for not going to the wake of his father, ex-Cavite Representative Pidi Barzaga Jr., despite the alleged closeness of the businessman with his father.
“I was actually looking forward to seeing him in my father’s funeral, but he was not there, so I was wondering why, and then eventually that turned into a personal grudge against Razon because I was wondering why, he was so close to my father, or my father believed he was so close to him, but he didn’t even bother to show up,” Barzaga said.
Based on the report, Cong. Kiko Barzaga claimed that he learned from a former staff of his father that it was actually his father who told Enrique Razon through a letter before he died not to go to his wake. The late Cong. Pidi Barzaga was allegedly after the safety of the health of the businessman as it was during the pandemic and he’s already a senior, too.
Amid the accusations against him, Cong. Kiko Barzaga bared his condition in accepting an “expulsion” from the House of Representatives.
