Authorities Arrest Parents for Selling Their Infant for Streetfood Business
The police authorities arrested a couple for trying to sell their infant to fund their kwek-kwek and fishball cart business.
Authorities rescued a two-week-old baby after the child was allegedly sold by her own parents for P27,500, which they planned to use as starting money for a kwek-kwek and fishball cart business.
The rescue took place at a mall in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, after the Philippine National Police Women and Children Protection Center carried out an entrapment operation on Monday, February 2, 2026.

The parents were arrested after they accepted the marked money in exchange for the baby. Police officers immediately secured the infant and made sure she was safe.
Initial investigation showed that the parents were facing financial difficulties and planned to use the money as capital for a small street food business. Despite their situation, authorities stressed that no level of hardship can ever justify selling a child.
The act is considered a serious crime and a clear violation of laws meant to protect children from abuse and exploitation.

The two suspects are now facing several charges, including violations of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, and the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.
These laws were created to ensure that children are protected from harm, neglect, and illegal activities.
The National Authority for Child Care immediately stepped in to check on the baby’s condition. The agency made sure the infant received proper medical attention and was placed under government care.

Officials emphasized that every child’s life is great value and should never be treated as something that can be bought or sold.
The agency also assured the public that the baby will continue to receive care, protection, and support. The goal is to give her a safe environment where she can grow up healthy and loved.
