Tornado Damages 15 Homes in Lanao del Sur 

A tornado caused damage to several homes and school facilities in Barangay Mangatao, Taraka, Lanao del Sur. 

Around 4:30 in the afternoon on Monday (February 9, 2026), a sudden weather disturbance left residents shocked as strong winds swept through the area.  

Videos shared online showed the force of the tornado as parts of the roof of the covered court at Mindanao State University–Taraka Community School were torn off. The video was taken by a student who happened to record the incident.

The strong winds could be seen ripping through light structures, while people nearby tried to move to safer areas. 

According to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Taraka, at least 15 houses were damaged by the tornado. Some homes lost portions of their roofs, while others suffered damage to walls and household items. 

Despite the destruction, authorities confirmed that no one was reported injured or killed during the incident, which brought relief to the community.

Soon after the tornado passed, local officials and disaster response teams went to the area to check on the situation. A rapid assessment was conducted to determine the full extent of the damage and to identify the immediate needs of the affected families. 

The assessment will help guide the delivery of assistance such as food, shelter materials, and other basic necessities.

Residents shared that the tornado came suddenly and did not last long, but its impact was strong enough to cause fear and destruction. Many families are now working together to clean up debris and repair what they can, while waiting for further support from local authorities.
