Naga Mayor Leni Robredo Declines To Talk about 2028 Elections
LENI ROBREDO – The former Vice President and Naga Mayor was asked if she’s considering to run for president again in 2028.
After Vice Pres. Sara Duterte announced that will run for president in 2028, there are talks if former Vice President and now Naga Mayor Robredo will also take the presidential race again. Robredo is undeniably seen as the strongest contender from the opposition.
Robredo ran for president in 2022 together with Senator Kiko Pangilinan. However, their tandem was not successful against Pres. Bongbong Marcos and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Despite their loss against the BBM-Sara tandem, the Leni-Kiko tandem has shown a strong ground of supporters that are loyal and proud of them until now, the Kakampinks.
Recently, Pres. Bongbong Marcos visited Naga City for the Oplan Kontra Baha. As the visit of the Chief Executive to bailiwick of former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo who won mayor of the city last May 2025 Elections, rumors that he’s possibly forging alliance with the Naga Mayor circulated.
Ahead of the visit of the President, Naga Mayor Leni Robredo clarified that there will be “no politics” in her meeting with Marcos Jr. The said meeting happened today and the Naga Mayor warmly welcomed the President when he arrived at the Sagop Creek.
Robredo and Marcos Jr., together with Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) chief Vince Dizon, checked on the creek. The President stressed that they did not talk about politics as he revealed that he used pink socks in honor of the Naga Mayor whose campaign color was pink.
“Serbisyo muna bago politika. The most political thing that we did today, I wore my pink socks. My pink socks in honor of Mayor Leni,” Marcos Jr. said.
Recently, Naga Mayor Leni Robredo was asked if she’s considering to run for president again in 2028. According to News5, the former Vice President stressed that she has just assumed the post as Naga City Mayor and there are still a lot of works to do.
“Ang dami ko pang trabahong gagawin at marami tayong lahat trabahong gagawin at gaya sa akin, kauupo ko lang bilang mayor. Hindi pa nga one year. Para pag-usapan ‘yung 2028, parang disservice naman ‘yun sa mga tao,” Robredo said.
Former Vice President and Naga Mayor Leni Robredo further expressed that it is still time to work now. Based on the post, she also expressed that election happens every three (3) years and should only be given attention every three (3) years.
“‘Pag pinag-usapan na ‘yung eleksyon, ‘yung gagawin mo para na sa eleksyon… Ngayon na panahon pa ng trabaho, mag-focus tayo sa trabaho. Kasi ‘yung eleksyon every 3 years ‘yun. ‘Yung time na iginugugol sa eleksyon apat every 3 years lang,” the Naga Mayor expressed.
During his visit in Naga, Pres. Bongbong Marcos also stressed that politics was not part of his discussion with Mayor Leni Robredo.
