Bong Suntay apologized to those who were offended.
Deputy Minority Leader Quezon City 4th District Rep. Bong Suntay apologized but stands by his remarks, still insisting there’s nothing wrong with them.
Quezon City 4th district Rep. Jesus “Bong” Suntay made inappropriate remarks involving Anne Curtis. It was a sensitive matter that offended many, especially women, as the remarks were made at the start of Women’s Month.
His narrative stated that he saw Curtis one time at Shangri-La and found her really beautiful. He then expressed that he felt a strong desire inside, got heated, and imagined what could happen. The thoughts that he accordingly kept to himself, thinking that he wouldn’t be charged for something he only imagined.
As the buzz continued, Suntay apologized only to those who got offended. However, despite expressing his apology, he still firmly believes that there was no malice in his intent behind that statement.
He said to the reporters on the sidelines of a Committee on Justice hearing on Wednesday, March 4, “While may mga tao siguro that found the analogy in bad taste, doon sa mga na-offend, inuulit ko, walang malice doon sa pagnanais nating gawin doon sa statement na yun.”
“Ayaw nating makasakit doon sa ating analogy. But kung may nasaktan, humihingi tayo ng dispensa. Kay Ms. Anne Curtis rin kung nasaktan siya sinabi, there was uh, ulitin ko, there was no malice intended at ako ay humihingi ng dispensa sa kanya,” he added.
He said he did not intend to hurt anyone with his analogy. However, many people felt it was in poor taste, noting that he could have chosen a different example to make his point. He could have defended his position without offending anyone or dragging someone into objectifying remarks.
Suntay further explained that the scenario he mentioned was purely fictitious, adding that the only truthful part of his remark was that the actress is indeed beautiful.
