Mother Questions P640 Fee for Child’s Moving-Up Ceremony in Aklan
A mother has raised concerns after being asked to pay fees for her child’s moving-up ceremony at a school in Ibajay, Aklan.
The issue has drawn attention as it involves possible collections despite reminders from the Department of Education about strict rules on school fees.
According to the unnamed mother, her child, a Grade 10 student set to move up this school year, was asked to pay around 640 pesos. She found this troubling because there is a standing policy that limits collections during graduation and end-of-school-year activities.
Aside from the ceremony fee, the mother also questioned other payments being collected from her children, who are studying in different grade levels. She shared that she has children in Grades 7, 10, and 11, and all of them were being asked to pay for items like the school paper and security services.
The mother explained that during a previous meeting, it was agreed that the payment should be per parent, not per child, which made the situation confusing for her.
The woman admitted that she was not able to attend the meeting personally and only sent a representative. Wanting to clarify the matter, she reached out to one of the teachers, but she later found herself blocked on social media, which added to her frustration.
Even though the paper given to them labeled the payment as a donation, her child reportedly felt worried about not being allowed to join the ceremony if the amount was not paid.
She believes that rules set by the education department should be followed, especially since many parents work hard to provide for their families. As of this writing, the school has yet to respond regarding the concern
