Leni Robredo was once again asked about her 2028 plan
Former Vice President and incumbent Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo shared her reaction to encouragement that she will run against Vice President Sara Duterte in the 2028 presidential elections.
Robredo served as the second-highest elected official in the Philippines from 2016 to 2022. She ran for president in the 2022 elections, but she was not triumphant. After taking a break for three years, she was elected as Naga City Mayor in the 2025 midterm elections.
Her supporters have been urging him to return to the national level in the next elections, but in a previous statement, the Mayor said that she would rather be in Naga.
Even though there was an initial expression of indecisiveness, Mayor Leni Robredo’s supporters and political allies have been encouraging her to run for president.
To recall, VP Sara Duterte has expressed her intention for the presidency. In a YouTube vlog by Kapamilya broadcast journalist Bernadette Sembrano, the former vice president spoke about the 2028 presidential elections.
The government official said that she is ignoring the convincing of many Filipinos to fight Vice President Sara Duterte in 2028.
“Hindi ko muna pinapansin. Kasi ayaw kong ma-distract ako from what I’m doing now. Ang obligasyon ko first and foremost, Naga,” Robredo said. Then, Bernadette asked her, “But for sure, tatakbo ka ulit?”
“Hindi ko pa rin sigurado. Hindi ako politikong pinagpaplanuhan ‘yong susunod, e. Wherever the road takes me,” the Naga City Mayor admitted, adding that the most important thing for her now is to fulfill the duty given to her.
There had been several groups urging Robredo to run for president again in the next elections.
“Tingin ko magiging unfair para sa city if gagamitin ko lang pagiging mayor bilang jump-off point. Hindi ako magiging effective mayor kung ang iniisip ko lang ay yung 2028,” Mayor Leni Robredo said.
