Mall Staff & Customers Evacuated During Powerful Tremor in Bogo City, Cebu
Mall staff and customers have evacuated as the ground suddenly shook, causing fear and confusion inside the building in Bogo City, Cebu.
On Monday afternoon (April 6, 2026), a magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck at around 3:22 PM struck Bogo City, Cebu. The powerful tremor causes panic inside a mall.
One of the shoppers at that time was Carl Anthony Ponce Son, who was with his wife buying items at a stall when the shaking began. As the tremors grew stronger, people inside the mall started to panic.
Some items fell and glass shattered, making the situation more alarming. When a security guard called for everyone to evacuate, people immediately ran toward the exits. Some were seen crying, especially those who were still shaken by memories of the stronger earthquake that hit the city months ago.
It can be recalled that Bogo City and nearby areas were also struck by a magnitude 6.9 earthquake on September 30, 2025. Because of this, many residents remained sensitive to any strong shaking.
As Carl and his wife headed home to the nearby town of Medellin, they passed by a person who had been injured by falling broken glass. The incident was later confirmed by Joseph Mark Monleon, Assistant Manager of the Bogo City Command Center.
According to reports, a glass door near one part of the mall broke, likely due to the sudden rush of people trying to get out. Three individuals also fainted due to shock, but they were immediately attended to and are now in stable condition.
Aside from the broken glass, no major structural damage was reported as of 5 PM that day. However, a power outage was recorded in a portion of Barangay Cogon following the earthquake.
Authorities continue to inspect buildings across Bogo City to ensure everyone’s safety after the incident.
