Davao Mayor Baste Duterte Reacts to Ramil Madriaga’s “Bading” Remarks

BASTE DUTERTE – The Davao City Mayor responded to Ramil Madriaga’s “bading” remarks with a dare to a fistfight.

The Duterte family is one of the most popular political clans in the Philippines now. Three (3) of the four (4) children of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte hold positions in politics.

The eldest among the Duterte siblings, Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, is currently the congressman of the first district of Davao while Inday Sara holds the vice presidency amid the constant challenges and issues.

Baste Duterte won as vice mayor of Davao City in the 2025 Midterm Elections but he eventually sat as the mayor of the city amid the ongoing detention of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte who won the mayoralty race last midterm polls.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte previously announced that she will run for president in the 2028 Elections. Her remarks came amid the ongoing impeachment hearings over the complaints against her. Here are some of the grounds raised against the Vice President:

  • Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in amassing and converting the amount over PHP 500 million confidential funds (CF) allocated to the Office of the Vice President from 2022 to 2023
  • Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in amassing and converting the amount of not less than PHP 112.5 million of confidential funds allocated to the Department of Education (DepEd) for the year 2023
  • Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust by corrupting and bribing officials of the DepEd
  • Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in contracting to murder or assassinate the president, the first lady, and the former speaker of the House
  • Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust in amassing unexplained wealth and failing to disclose all her properties and interests in properties in her SALN
  • Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust in committing acts of  political destabilization and the high crimes of sedition and insurrection

The House of Representatives’ Committee on Justice has held two (2) impeachment hearings already but Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is absent during both hearings. Her alleged “bagman”, Ramil Madriaga, was invited by the panel.

During the House impeachment hearing, Ramil Madriaga made several claims including the alleged description of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte on Cong. Paolo Duterte and Mayor Baste Duterte as supposedly “baliw” and “bading” respectively. The Davao Mayor recently reacted to his claim.

Based on News5, responding to the claim of Ramil Madriaga, Davao Mayor Baste Duterte challenged him into a fistfight. According to the son of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, he can invite former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Nicolas Torre III and “bangag” and it can be three (3) of them against him alone.

“Ano raw? Bading ako sabi ni Madriaga. Kung gusto mo suntukan na lang tayo, no holds barred. Isama mo pa si Torre at si Bangag. Anytime, anywhere, just inform me and I will be there,” the younger Duterte said based on the post.

At the hearing, Madriaga also had several claims against the Vice President. Amid the many accusations, it is Madriaga’s claim that she allegedly needed someone’s help to get through law school that elicited a response from Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
