Pres. Bongbong Marcos Speaks on Gov’t Efforts To Bring Zaldy Co Back to PH
BONGBONG MARCOS – The Philippine President vowed that the government will bring Zaldy Co home to the Philippines.
Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. previously announced that Zaldy Co was arrested and detained in Prague. The former Congressman is one of the alleged main role players in the supposed multi-billion flood control corruption in the country.
Several government officials were tagged in the flood control mess. Many of them are members of the House of Representatives and officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways.
The DPWH has become the center of controversy amid the flood control issue. Aside from the congressmen and the public works officials, some senators and former senators were also tagged in the issue.
The supposed multi-billion flood control corruption triggered the “Trillion Peso March”. It gathered thousands of Filipinos twice to protest against corruption.
Zaldy Co was already out of the Philippines when the flood control mess broke out. He linked Pres. Bongbong Marcos and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez to the alleged corruption. He also claimed that Marcos Jr., through Romualdez, allegedly ordered him to stay out of the country.
Malacañang denied the allegations against the President. According to Palace press officer undersecretary Claire Castro, the former Congressman allegedly wants the investigation to stop so he tagged the President.
Recently, amid the rumors and accusations that the Philippine government is allegedly lying over the supposed arrest of Zaldy Co in Prague, Pres. Bongbong Marcos broke his silence through a video message posted on social media.
“Magbibigay lang ako sa inyo ng pahayag tungkol sa kalagayan ni Zaldy Co. Nananatili po siya sa kustodiya ng Czech Republic at isinasagawa natin ang lahat ng mga kinakailangang hakbang para sa kanyang pagbalik dito sa Pilipinas,” the President expressed.
Pres. Bongbong Marcos further expressed that he has ordered the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to lead the communication with the Czech Republic authorities to ensure that all the requirements are based on the legal process.
“Magpapadala rin ng high level coordination team upang tutukan ito. Ang ganitong mga proseso ay may sinusunod na legal na mga hakbang sa pagitan ng mga bansa,” Marcos Jr. said.
In his video message, Pres. Bongbong Marcos stressed that bringing Zaldy Co back to the Philippines requires enough time but assured that the Philippine government will return the former Congressman to the country.
“We will bring Zaldy Co home and we will do so in accordance with the law. He will answer to the Filipino people,” the President said.
Previously, Senate President Pro Tempore Ping Lacson claimed that Zaldy Co will be immediately ordered to appear before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee upon his return to the Philippines.
