Palace blasts Harry Roque over his statement about Zaldy Co.
Former presidential spokesperson Atty. Harry Roque was blasted by the Palace following his claims about Zaldy Co’s arrest.
Previously, former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque insisted that fugitive former Ako Bicol Partylist Rep. Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co is not in custody in Prague, Czech Republic, contradicting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s earlier statement.

To recall, PBBM said, “We are in close coordination with the Czech government to ensure that all legal processes are followed and to arrange for his return to the Philippines at the soonest possible time. We will keep the public informed as developments unfold.”
“In light of this contradiction, the accuracy of the President’s statement is now in serious doubt. At best, the claim was premature and unverified; at worst, it contributed to the spread of misinformation on a matter involving international law enforcement,” Roque said in a statement.
With these claims, the Palace reacted and slammed the fake news being spread, downplaying the allegations. The Palace stands by its claim that Co is in custody, urges trust in official sources, says it’s being careful due to international involvement, and casts doubt on unverified claims like alleged death threats.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro asked why the public would believe someone who is a fake news peddler.
Castro explained that the lack of photos or videos confirming the arrest of Elizaldy Co is due to the government’s careful handling of the situation, especially since it involves another country, and urged the public to let authorities do their job without interference.
The Palace also assured that Co will be safe upon his return to the Philippines, stressing that all Filipinos have the right to come home securely.
Castro expressed, ”Ang Pangulo po ay nagsalita na. Si Secretary Vida ay nagsalita na rin. So, bakit po ba natin paniniwalaan ang isang fake news peddler?”
