Pregnant Woman & Baby Die After Delayed Hospital Admission in Aklan
A pregnant woman and a baby die following a series of delays in receiving medical care at a hospital in Ibajay, Aklan.
The victim was identified as Sheryl Florendo, who was already experiencing severe pain as she neared childbirth.
According to her relatives, Sheryl was first brought to Ibajay Hospital. However, they were reportedly told that she could not be admitted right away due to incomplete laboratory tests and the need for an ultrasound.

They were advised to transfer her to a hospital in Kalibo instead. As her condition continued to worsen and signs of labor began, the family struggled to arrange for immediate transport. They were unable to leave right away due to the cost of the ambulance.
Eventually, a rescue team from the local disaster office assisted them, and a nurse accompanied Sheryl during the trip.
During the journey, her situation became more critical. The nurse reportedly tried to delay the delivery while they were still on the road. Unfortunately, Sheryl lost consciousness and stopped breathing before they could reach the hospital in Kalibo.
Despite efforts upon arrival, both the mother and her baby could not be saved. The tragic loss has affected the family, who are now calling for justice. They believe that if Sheryl had been attended immediately at the first hospital, both lives might have been spared.
The incident also left four children without their mother. The unborn baby, a girl, had been long awaited and dearly hoped for by the family.
