Nicolas Torre III Calls Out Motorists For Stealing Drinks From Accident Scene
NICOLAS TORRE – MMDA General Manager Nicolas Torre III condemned the alleged stealing that happened following the truck incident in Taguig City.
Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Nicolas Torre III strongly condemned motorists who took soft drinks from an overturned truck along C5 Road in Taguig City on Monday, April 27, calling the act outright theft.
The incident caused heavy traffic congestion in the area after the truck reportedly tilted, spilling its cargo onto the road. According to a radio report, several motorists stopped not to help clear the vehicle or assist authorities, but instead to take bottles of soft drinks from the damaged vehicle. This worsened the already slow-moving traffic and drew criticism from officials and the public alike.
In a Facebook post, Torre did not mince words as he addressed the behavior of those who took advantage of the situation. “Hindi ito diskarte. Hindi ito tulong. Ito ay pagnanakaw—plain and simple. Anuman ang dahilan, mali ang kumuha ng hindi sa iyo,” said Torre.
He emphasized that such actions reflect a deeper problem in societal values, pointing out how opportunistic behavior undermines efforts to build discipline and order in the community. Torre further expressed concern that this kind of mindset could hinder the success of government programs aimed at improving public systems and civic responsibility.
“Kung ganito ang mindset, kahit anong programa ng gobyerno—babagsak. Kung gusto natin ng maayos na lipunan, hindi puwedeng galit sa mali—pero gagawin din kapag may pagkakataon,” he added.
The MMDA official’s statement quickly gained traction online, sparking discussions about discipline, accountability, and public behavior during emergencies. Many netizens agreed with Torre, stressing that incidents like this highlight the need for stronger enforcement of laws and a shift in public attitude.
Meanwhile, authorities were able to clear the overturned truck from the road in the early hours of Monday, restoring normal traffic flow along C5 Road. The MMDA continues to remind motorists to exercise discipline and integrity, especially in unexpected situations where public cooperation is crucial.
