Authorities Arrest Man After Allegedly Using Tempered Lotto Ticket to Claim Jackpot Prize
A man was arrested after he allegedly tried to claim a massive P172-million lotto jackpot using altered lotto ticket.
The authorities arrested a man for tempering a lotto ticket and attempting to claim the P172-million jackpot prize at the office of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office in Mandaluyong City.
According to the National Capital Region Police Office, the incident happened on Monday when the suspect visited the PCSO office to claim the jackpot prize from the 6/49 lotto draw held on April 7, 2026.
The man presented a ticket that supposedly matched the winning number combination for the draw.
However, authorities immediately checked the ticket using the official lotto database and cotejo system. During the verification process, they discovered that the winning jackpot had already been claimed earlier by the rightful winner.
Police said further inspection of the ticket revealed signs of tampering. Investigators allegedly found handwritten markings made using a ballpen, which raised suspicion among PCSO personnel.
The ticket was then examined by the PCSO Data Center and Security Office, where authorities confirmed that the document had been altered.
Because of the findings, the suspect was immediately taken into custody by authorities. The alleged fake lotto ticket, which reportedly contained markings and signatures, was also confiscated as evidence.
The man may face charges for falsification of public documents due to the alleged attempt to claim the huge amount through fraudulent means.
Authorities stressed the importance of strict verification procedures in protecting the integrity of lotto operations and public systems. NCRPO chief Police Major General Anthony Aberin said the attempt was stopped because of the careful validation process being followed by the agency.
Aberin also assured the public that authorities will continue to act quickly against fraudulent activities and protect legitimate transactions involving government systems.
