Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake in Eastern Samar, April 29, 2026
EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.8 magnitude quake in Eastern Samar today, April 29, 2026. Here are the details.
Following the previous 5.7 magnitude quake that struck Sultan Kudarat, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. According to the agency, the quake recently hit Eastern Samar and it has a magnitude of 4.8.
The earthquake that struck Eastern Samar today, April 29, 2026, was tectonic in origin. A tectonic quake is a shaking which is a product when the Earth’s crust breaks because of the geological forces on the rocks and the adjoining plates which result to chemical and physical changes.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Eastern Samar was located at 12.50°North, 125.74°East – 044 km North 36° East of San Policarpo. It had a depth of focus of 018 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that no damages are expected from the said quake neither aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, Intensity III was felt in the following areas:
- Can-avid
- Arteche
- Borongan City
The following instrumental intensities were recorded in these areas:
- Intensity I
- Carigara, Abuyog, Alangalang, and Dulag, LEYTE
- Intensity III
- Can-Avid, EASTERN SAMAR
- Palapag, NORTHERN SAMAR
