Strange Line of Rats Went Viral and Elicits Comments Online
A strange line of rats was mistaken for a snake crawling across a yard surprised a couple from Catarman, Camiguin.
The couple was surprised to discover that it was actually a group of small rats moving together in a line.
The unusual sight happened in the yard of Doyan Calustre and his wife. According to Doyan, they suddenly noticed something long and moving fast in front of them. Because of the way it crawled on the ground, they immediately thought it was a snake.

His wife became alarmed after seeing the strange creature pass by. However, as Doyan carefully observed it, he realized that it was not a snake at all. Instead, it was several small rats closely attached to one another while moving in a straight line.
Doyan admitted that he was both shocked and amazed by what he saw because it was his first time witnessing such behavior. He estimated that there were around six to eight rats connected together while running across the yard.
The rats were believed to have come from a grassy and bushy area near their home. Because of the unusual formation, many people online became curious after photos and videos of the incident started circulating on social media.
According to science enthusiast Kuya Kim, this kind of movement is known as a caravan formation. In this behavior, young rats hold onto the tail, fur, or body of the rat in front of them using their mouths, causing them to move together like a train.
The older rat or mother rat usually leads the group while the younger rats follow behind. Experts say baby rats still have weak eyesight and a poor sense of direction, so they rely on the one in front to guide them safely.
The formation also helps protect the group while they transfer from one place to another. Staying connected makes the young rats safer compared to moving separately, especially when traveling through unfamiliar surroundings.
