ABS-CBN star Vice Ganda has this to share, remembering the moments when AlDub was still at the peak of its success.
In the past year, millions were drawn to the AlDub phenomenon, featuring Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza. AlDub is one of the biggest pop culture successes in the Philippines, especially in 2015. What started as a spontaneous segment on Eat Bulaga! quickly turned into a nationwide craze. It has gained massive attention both on TV and social media.
Some of the key successes of AlDub are the following:

- Extremely high TV ratings, dominating noontime viewership

That time showed that AlDub was a cultural moment. They were not just a love team. While they enjoyed their success, their competitors suffered. The competition had been intensified, and It’s Showtime was clearly suffering during that time.
It was among the lowest points of the Kapamilya noontime show, and some significant moments are still vivid for the main host, Vice Ganda. In previous years, Vice admitted how she was once so scared of the phenomenal success of AlDub. The duo’s quick rise was reflected in their ratings, which had dipped considerably at the time.
He worried that “It’s Showtime” would ultimately be canceled. However, his worries were deemed unfounded because, apparently, Showtime survived not only the AlDub phenomenon but also the shutdown of ABS-CBN.
In the recent episode of Showtime, while exchanging banter with a contestant, their story turned to AlDub when their famous theme song “God Gave Me You” was played in the background.
She did the iconic “Pabebe” wave and their dubsmash gestures, adding, “Pinapanood ko yun tapos iiyak ako, ‘bagsak ratings namin!’ Pinapanalangin ko na lang tapos sabi ko, ‘Alden, tama na! Magsalita na kayo!’ Ayun nagsalita!”
