Tricycle Driver Faces Backlash After Hitting Cyclist & Throwing Punches
A tricycle driver drew criticism online after he punched someone following a collision with a bicycle in Kalibo.
An intense road incident in Kalibo has drawn strong reactions online after a tricycle driver was accused of hitting a cyclist and later attacking him. The incident happened late in the afternoon on May 5, 2026, near the crossing of Mabini Street and D. Maagma Street in Poblacion.
According to the student who shared his experience, he was calmly waiting at a stoplight when a tricycle suddenly brushed against his bicycle. The impact nearly dragged him along the road. He expected the driver to stop and check on him, but instead, the tricycle continued moving forward.
Wanting to get the driver’s attention, the student called out. The driver then stopped, but instead of apologizing, he approached the student and threw punches.
The sudden attack left the victim trying to defend himself, but he still suffered injuries, especially on his hand and fingers, which remained swollen and painful afterward.
The situation could have escalated further, but people nearby quickly stepped in and prevented more harm. Witnesses helped calm things down as tensions rose between the two.

After the incident, the tricycle driver quickly left the area. Some passengers who had been riding the vehicle appeared uneasy and hesitant to continue their trip. The victim also noticed that the driver’s eyes were red, leading to suspicions that he may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time.
The student later went to the Kalibo Municipal Police Station to report the incident. The case has also been referred to the Traffic and Transportation Management Division for proper action.
