Sara Duterte Reveals Emotional Reason Behind Silence on Impeachment

SARA DUTERTE – Vice President Sara Duterte has stirred public attention after revealing a deeply personal decision involving her father amid the ongoing impeachment issue.

Vice President Sara Duterte has revealed that she is deliberately keeping her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, unaware of the latest developments surrounding the impeachment case filed against her in the House of Representatives.

The Vice President shared that she has chosen not to discuss the issue with her father, particularly as the case continues to progress in Congress. It can be recalled that on Monday, May 4, 2026, the House Committee on Justice approved, with a unanimous 55-0 vote, the advancement of the reports and articles of impeachment against her to the House plenary.

At the plenary level, the impeachment complaint must secure at least one-third of the total votes from lawmakers before it can be elevated to the Senate for trial. Despite this significant development, Duterte emphasised that her father remains uninformed about the situation.

In an interview with the media on Tuesday, May 5, in The Hague, Netherlands, she explained her decision, saying, “So hindi niya alam na merong pangalawang posibleng impeachment na mangyayari.”

She further clarified that she does not see the need to burden her father with such matters, especially given his age and current condition.

The Vice President expressed concern that informing him could only lead to unnecessary stress.

Duterte also voiced a deeper worry regarding her father’s well-being, particularly given his current situation at the detention centre of the International Criminal Court. She admitted fearing the possibility that excessive worry could take a toll on his health.

Concluding her remarks, she underscored her desire for her father to focus only on positive thoughts.
