Young Boy Dies After Being Accidentally Strangled by a ‘Duyan’ in Rizal
A young boy lost his life after being accidentally strangled by a ‘Duyan’ inside their home in Pililla, Rizal.
The heartbreaking incident happened in Sitio Tobacco, Barangay Hulo on Monday evening of May 4, 2026.
Based on the police investigation, the child was left alone inside the house by his mother around 6 p.m. She stepped out briefly to do a simple task while the boy stayed behind. Before leaving, everything seemed normal, and there were no signs that anything unusual would happen.
While waiting, the child reportedly began playing with a nylon hammock that was tied to the ceiling. It appeared to be part of his usual play, something harmless at first. However, as time passed, the situation took a tragic turn.
After nearly an hour, the mother returned and was shocked by what she saw. Her son was found kneeling and already unconscious, with the hammock tightly wrapped around his neck. She quickly rushed to help him and called for assistance from nearby neighbors.
Together, they managed to remove the hammock from his neck. The child was immediately brought to a hospital in Morong, Rizal in hopes of saving his life. Sadly, doctors later declared him dead.
Both the mother and the authorities said there were no signs of foul play. The incident was considered a tragic accident that happened inside their home.
The incident reminds parents and guardians to remain extra careful, especially when young children are left alone, even for a short time. Simple household items can sometimes become dangerous when accidents happen unexpectedly.
