The office of Bato dela Rosa rejected the subpoena from CIDG

The Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group personnel served the Senate with a subpoena for Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa this morning, May 11.

Dela Rosa has been absent from the Senate since November last year. His absence was connected to the reported warrant of arrest against him from the International Criminal Court (ICC).

However, based on a previous report, the ICC clarified that no arrest warrant was issued against the Senator.

Police Capt. Larry Rey, a chief investigator of the PNP-CIDG, said that the staff of Senator Bato dela refused to accept the subpoena.

In a recent report from Bandera, it was said that Sen Bato dela Rosa’s staff argued that the senator had no orders to them regarding the subpoena. However, Rey said that the subpoena can be considered served because they left it at the senator’s office.

Interior Sec. Jonvic Remulla first announced that the subpoena to Dela Rosa was a request for the senator’s cooperation in investigating alleged “extra judicial killings,” in conjunction with the previous administration’s anti-drug campaign.

Aside from former President Rodrigo Duterte, the Senator is also among those charged with crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

He has not entered the Senate since November 10, and this is the root of the ethics complaint against him at the Senate Ethics Committee.

Previously, Dela Rosa received support from his fellow Seantor Alan Peter Cayetano, Senate Minority Leader. Cayetano stresed that it was not Dela Rosa’s intention to hide. However, Cayetano said his fellow senator had to do that because the government has not promised for his safety.

With his absence, Dela Rosa was asked to waive his salary. The senator has been receiving negative reactions for still getting his salary while he is not fulfilling his duties.
