Young Lady Smiles After Coins From Burned Home Reach Over P100
A young lady smiled after her family managed to collect more than P100 worth of coins from their burned home.
A 16-year-old girl still found a reason to smile after her family managed to collect more than P100 worth of burned coins from the ruins, despite losing their home in a massive fire in Parola Compound, Binondo.
Darlene Maure shared that her sibling searched through the ashes of their destroyed home and gathered several coins that survived the fire. Although the money was small, Darlene said it would still help her parents buy food while they try to recover from the tragedy.
Their house was among the many homes destroyed after a huge fire broke out on Saturday afternoon, May 23, in the residential area of Parola Compound in Manila. The fire quickly spread through the crowded community, leaving thousands of families homeless.
Many residents have been trying to salvage anything they can from the debris. Some searched for scrap materials, damaged appliances, or other items they could still sell to earn money for food and daily needs.
According to Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, more than 2,000 families were affected by the fire. Hundreds of families are currently staying at the Delpan Evacuation Center while waiting for assistance and temporary shelter.
The local government has started registering affected residents through the city’s social welfare department. Authorities are also working to clear the debris scattered across narrow streets and nearby parts of the Pasig River to help residents move around safely again.
Meanwhile, Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is expected to visit the evacuation center to check on the condition of the affected families.
The Manila local government also assured residents that each affected family would receive P10,000 in financial assistance. Families only need to present the required documents, including a valid ID and registration forms, to claim the aid.
