Joel Villanueva received criticism from students
The College of Information Sciences Student Government of Benguet State University condemned Senator Joel Villanueva after he was appointed the new chairman of the Senate Committee on Higher, Technical, and Vocational Education.
Villanueva has long been in the political arena. His name became controversial when he was dragged into the anomalous flood control projects.
He was accused of being involved in the anomalies focused on the flood control projects by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Villanueva has strongly denied the allegations against him. He even said that he is willing to open his bank account to the public to prove that he is not involved in the corruption issue.
Just recently, Sen. Joel Villanueva received criticism once again after he was named as the new Senate education chair.
Based on the report from The Manila Times, the student government of BSU-College of Information Sciences opposed Villanueva’s appointment.
The students stressed that they, as well as the ordinary Filipinos, “deserve leaders focused on accountability and public service.”
They also said they unite with the National Union of Students of the Philippines in rejecting Villanueva as the new Senate Committee on Higher, Technical and Vocational Education chairman.
The Benguet students emphasized that the future of the younger generation “should never be treated as collateral damage in the ambitions of the powerful.”

The group also stressed that they were taught to regard leaders as models of showing integrity and public service. However, the group said that, how can they take price in a government “That is increasingly consumed by political maneuvering and self-interest that eclipses even the machinations of Frank Underwood’s House of Cards?”
Frank Underwood is a character in the American adaptation of political drama television series House of Cards, who is known for being a “ruthless, cunning and manipulative protagonist.”
In addition, the students also pleaded with the Senate, now under the leadership of Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, to address with transparency and urgency the impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte.
