Newborn Baby Girl Found by Residents at Vacant Lot in Catanduanes
A newborn baby girl was found abandoned in a vacant lot in Barangay Cavinitan, Virac, Catanduanes.
On Tuesday morning, May 26, 2026, a newborn child was found by residents in the area. The infant was discovered shortly after 7:00 a.m. by a concerned citizen who noticed the infant lying in the area.
Fortunately, the baby was still alive and moving when she was found. The resident immediately sought help and reported the situation to authorities to ensure the child’s safety.

Personnel from the Virac Municipal Police Station quickly responded to the scene under the leadership of Police Major Kenneth Ding C. Gutierrez, chief of police. Authorities carefully rescued the infant and immediately brought her to the Eastern Bicol Medical Center for proper medical examination and urgent care.
Doctors and medical staff are now closely monitoring the condition of the baby to make sure she receives the attention and treatment she needs after being left alone outdoors.
As the investigation continued, authorities confirmed that they have already identified a person allegedly connected to the abandonment of the child. However, police chose not to reveal the identity of the individual to protect privacy while the investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities are now coordinating with other government agencies to ensure the baby’s protection and future welfare. Legal actions are also being prepared as investigators continue gathering more details about the incident.
The Virac Municipal Police Station reminded the public that abandoning a child is a serious offense that carries criminal responsibility under the law. Officials also encouraged people facing difficult personal situations to seek help from proper agencies instead of putting a child’s life in danger.
