Flooding Hits Parts of Metro Manila as Habagat Brings Heavy Rain
Several areas in Metro Manila were affected by flooding due to heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon, locally known as Habagat.
On Monday (August 10, 20926), the heavy downpour started before dawn and affected major roads and communities across the region. As rain continued to fall for several hours, floodwaters quickly rose in low-lying areas, making travel difficult for many residents and motorists.
One of the areas heavily affected was Zapote Junction in Las Piñas City, where floodwaters became so deep that vehicles could no longer pass through. Motorists were forced to look for alternative routes while others chose to wait for the water level to go down.
In Quezon City, several roads were also submerged. Parts of Kaliraya Street, G. Araneta Avenue, and E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue were covered by floodwaters, slowing down traffic and creating challenges for people heading to work or school.
At around 3:40 a.m., a white vehicle became stranded in waist-deep floodwaters along Sto. Domingo Avenue. Concerned residents and netizens nearby worked together to help move the vehicle to safety after it could no longer continue through the flooded road.
Some residents took precautionary measures as soon as they noticed the water rising. One homeowner in Barangay Tatalon moved his vehicle away from his house before the flood reached dangerous levels.
According to residents, flooding is a common problem in the area whenever strong rains occur because of its low elevation.
Meanwhile, floodwaters also reached residential communities in Barangay Doña Imelda. Watermarks left on walls showed how high the flood had risen during the early hours of the morning.
Authorities continue to monitor affected areas as rains from the Habagat persist.
