Free Rhinoplasty at Batangas Public Hospital Sparks Mixed Reactions
Batangas Provincial Hospital has gone viral after announcing free rhinoplasty and blepharoplasty for selected patients on September 17 and 18.
The hospital announced the offer through a Facebook post on August 12. The program is being led by the Philippine Academy of Aesthetic Surgery and the Rotary Club of Taal-Lemery.
Interested patients will first undergo a screening process to determine whether they qualify for the procedures and whether the surgery is medically necessary. This means the free procedures will not be available to everyone who applies.
Rhinoplasty, commonly called a nose job, changes the shape or structure of the nose. While it is often performed to improve appearance, it can also be needed for medical reasons. For example, people who have suffered injuries that changed the shape or function of their nose may need the surgery to improve breathing or repair damage.
Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, removes excess or loose skin around the eyes. It can reduce the appearance of under-eye bags and make the eyes look more refreshed. In some cases, the surgery may also be needed when excess skin around the eyelids affects a person’s eyesight.
The announcement received mixed reactions online. Many people expressed interest in the free procedures, while others questioned whether cosmetic surgery should be offered at a public hospital. Some also raised concerns about limited funding, medical staff, and other basic healthcare needs.
