Security Guard Arrested After Shooting Co-Worker in Valenzuela City

A 49-year-old security guard was arrested after allegedly shooting his co-worker inside a plastic manufacturing facility in Valenzuela City.

On August 16, 2026, employees were carrying out their regular duties when the incident happened in Barangay Lawang Bato, Valenzuela City. Authorities said the victim, a machine operator, was using his cellphone when the suspect suddenly approached him and fired a .38-caliber revolver.

The victim was hit in the stomach but managed to react quickly despite his injury. Investigators said he ran for safety and used a nearby table as cover to protect himself from further harm. A struggle later broke out between the two men, allowing the victim to fight back and eventually take the firearm away from the suspect.

Several workers who witnessed the incident immediately stepped in and stopped the confrontation. They also contacted the police, who quickly responded to the scene.

The injured worker was rushed to a hospital for treatment and is currently recovering from his wound. Authorities have not released additional details about his condition, but he is reported to be receiving medical care.

Initial findings suggest that a workplace dispute may have been the motive behind the shooting. Police learned that the victim had reportedly been informing management about the suspect’s alleged behavior while on duty. Reports indicated that concerns had been raised because the security guard was allegedly drinking alcohol while working.

“Diumano, ang ating biktima ay sinusumbong ang gawain nitong suspek na kapag naka-duty siya bilang guwardiya ay nakainom siya. Sinusumbong siya sa management,” Valenzuela City Police chief Investigation and Detective Management Section Police Major Robin Santos said.

During the investigation, police recovered the firearm and ammunition used in the shooting. Authorities later discovered that the suspect allegedly did not have the proper documents required for the ownership, carrying, and use of the weapon.

The suspect is now under the custody of the Valenzuela City Police and has reportedly declined to give a statement regarding the incident.

In addition to a frustrated murder case, the suspect is also facing charges for alleged violations of Republic Act 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
