Thief Arrested After Break-In at Quezon City School; Teachers’ Salary Funds Among Items Stolen
A thief was arrested after breaking into a school in Barangay Sauyo, Quezon City and stealing funds intended for the salaries of teachers.
According to police, the incident took place while the owner of the small private school was out of town. The burglars reportedly targeted the school’s administration office and made off with cash and valuable equipment.
“Nakita natin sa kuha ng CCTV natin, dalawang indibidwal ‘yong pumasok, dumaan sa bintana ng school; winasak nila ito at winasak ‘yong pintuan ng administration office at pinagkukuha itong mga cellphone, hard disk, computer equipment, cameras, and money na which is pangsahod sana sa mga empleyado,” said.
CCTV footage captured two individuals entering the school premises. Investigators said the suspects gained access through a window before forcing their way into the administration office.
Once inside, they allegedly searched through the facility and stole several items, including mobile phones, computer equipment, cameras, hard drives, and cash intended for employee salaries.
Authorities estimated the total value of the stolen money and property at around P310,000. Police launched an investigation and were able to identify the suspects. One of them was reportedly a resident living near the school, while the other was from Barangay Pasong Tamo.
The suspect from Sauyo was arrested on Sunday. During questioning, he allegedly helped authorities locate a vacant lot where some of the evidence had been buried. The second suspect remains at large and is still being pursued by law enforcement.
The arrested man is now detained at the Talipapa Police Station and is facing charges of robbery in an inhabited place. Authorities said he expressed regret over his alleged involvement in the crime.
Police advised schools and business owners to strengthen security measures and avoid keeping large amounts of cash in unsecured locations. They encouraged institutions to use safes or other secure storage systems when handling significant amounts of money.
The management of Mary & Child Academy of Sauyo declined to give interviews but released a statement assuring students, parents, teachers, and staff that their safety remains a priority.
