Jail Officer in Ormoc City Jail Nabbed After Suspected Illegal Drugs Falls From Pocket
A jail officer in Leyte was arrested by his fellow officers after suspected illegal drugs accidentally fell from his pocket while he was on duty inside the Ormoc City Jail.
On August 25, 2026, the incident happened inside the male dormitory section of the jail facility in Ormoc City Police Station 1.
The officer, identified as Jail Officer 1 Sonny from Barangay Baas, Palo, Leyte, was reportedly with other jail guards during a meal break when a small sachet containing suspected shabu fell from his pocket.
The item was immediately noticed by two of his fellow officers. Realizing that it could be illegal drugs, they secured the sachet and reported the matter to their superior officer. The incident led to an investigation inside the facility.
The jail authorities conducted a body search for the suspect. During the inspection, officers allegedly recovered a tissue paper hidden in his uniform. The tissue contained six small plastic sachets of suspected shabu wrapped in aluminum foil.
Authorities said the total weight of the confiscated suspected shabu was around 2.34 grams, with an estimated street value of nearly P16,000.
After the discovery, jail officials immediately coordinated with Ormoc City Police Station 1 for proper handling of the incident. The suspect was taken into custody and brought to the police station for further investigation.
The seized items have already been turned over to the Regional Forensic Unit 8 for laboratory examination to confirm their contents. Meanwhile, the arrested jail officer remains detained while authorities prepare the appropriate charges against him.
Authorities said the investigation will continue as they work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure accountability within the institution.
