BJMP released a statement on what happened to Sen. Jinggoy Estrada
The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) vehemently denied the reports that Senator Jinggoy Estrada slipped and fell inside the bathroom of the New Quezon City Jail.
Reports stated that on Wednesday morning, August 26, while preparing to leave for a scheduled medical check-up, it was said that while he was taking a bath, his left knee gave in.
Because of his condition, the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division issued an order allowing Estrada to temporarily leave the jail for the medical examination.
However, based on the report from Bandera, BJMP clarified that Sen. Jinggoy Estrada did not slip in the bathroom of the detention center. The agency has dismissed the reports as fake news.
BJMP spokesperson Jail Supt. Jayrex Bustinera clarified that the reports concerning the detained senator are untrue. He stressed that Estrada experienced severe knee pain while walking down the building’s corridor and preparing for his court-ordered hospital check-up.
“We deny that. That’s fake news. The truth is, he was walking, preparing for his court-ordered check-up. While walking, he heard a sound. It hurt; he felt it. And he had the doctor check him up,” Bustinera said.
The spokesperson also said that the senator was just being supported. The doctor was also summoned to his court-ordered X-ray and consultation at an outside hospital. Bustinera stressed that this is the truth.
He further explained that at around 11:30 a.m., Estrada felt a popping sensation in his knee, causing the senator intense pain.
“Let me just refute it. First, he didn’t slip in the bathroom or whatever. He has a court order for a check-up at 11 a.m. today. That’s why we brought him in at 1 p.m., because his doctor wasn’t available this afternoon,” the spokesperson said.
Bustinera further explained that around 11:30 a.m., Sen. Jinggoy Estrada was already getting ready when something snapped, and he felt a click in his knee that hurt a lot.
At that time, the BJMP doctor was already present, and the senator was supported.
“Before he was brought to the BJMP, his medical records included pre-existing records of a knee injury,” saad pa ng BJMP spokesperson,” the BJMP spokesperson said.
