Investigation Underway After Alleged Assault of PWD by Security Guard in Quezon City Mall
A security guard in Quezon City is facing an investigation for allegedly assaulting an adult person with disability (PWD) inside a bookstore.
Authorities are investigating an incident involving a security guard and an adult person with disability (PWD) inside a bookstore at a mall in Quezon City after a video of the encounter spread widely on social media.
On August 27, 2026, the PWD, who was said to have a mental disability, allegedly took a ballpen from the store. A witness claimed that during the incident, the security guard punched the individual in the chest.
The Quezon City Persons with Disability Affairs Office (QC-PDAO) began coordinating with the Pasay City government because the PWD involved is reportedly a resident of Pasay City. The office has also reached out to the family to provide assistance, including access to legal support and other services that may be needed.
The National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) has called for a fair and thorough investigation. The agency emphasized the importance of following due process and verifying all details related to the alleged theft and whether any form of discrimination took place during the incident.
Meanwhile, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) is continuing its investigation to establish the full sequence of events and determine the responsibilities of those involved. Authorities said the case would be handled fairly and according to the law.
The security guard has already been placed under preventive suspension while his security agency conducts a separate investigation. The bookstore involved also released a statement expressing its commitment to maintaining a safe environment for all customers, including persons with disabilities.
Officials stressed that every individual deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and safety. They also noted that no one should be subjected to abuse or inhumane treatment, regardless of the circumstances.
