The incumbent Pampanga Governor received backlash because of her outfit amid flooding
Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda has apologized for the viral photos and videos of her circulating on social media, wearing branded OOTD (outfit of the day) while visiting flooded areas.
Netizens criticized the governor and her son, Pampanga Vice Governor Dennis Pineda, for wearing branded clothing while visiting areas in Pampanga flooded due to weeks of rain.
Photos circulating on social media show Vice Governor Dennis wearing a black-and-white Balmain PB Labyrinthe monogram ensemble worth thousands, based on the article in Bandera.
Meanwhile, Gov. Lilia wore a Prada Re-Nylon hooded jacket/raincoat when she inspected the damage at the Sto. Cristo Dam in Lubao, Pampanga.
The mother-and-son political duo faced a massive amount of criticism and backlash over their branded outfits, which cost thousands.
Governor Lilia has apologized to everyone who was disappointed and offended by their wearing of expensive clothing while checking on constituents affected by the floods.
Speaking about the criticism, the Pampanga Governor admitted that it was not right for them to wear those outfits.
“Kung makita man nila yon. Nagkamali kami sa ganoong attire namin, sorry. Kasi talagang kapag gumising kami sa isang umaga, kung ano lang ang madampot mo, yun lang ang isusuot mo kasi malakas ang ulan, matubig. Kailangan meron kang kapote. Actually, kapote lang yon,” she explained.
She’s also aware of the comments from the public regarding their outfits. The governor said that they respected what the public reactions were.
“Siguro sa akin, parang wake-up call din sa akin na ganoon. Pero hindi ako yung maluhong tao kasi. Yun lang sigurong araw na yon,” she said.
On the other hand, she further explained that she just wore whatever she saw that morning.
“Pero kung titingnan mo lang ako, yung bihis ko, hindi ako ganoon. Sorry po kasi kapag umaga, sabi ko nga, kung ano lang yung madampot mo, yun na lang ang isusuot mo. Parang ganoon ang nangyari,” the Pampanga governor said.
Then, she pointed out that they have a little money and they are serving. The female politician added, “Yung pagsusuot naman ng mga ganoon, hindi naman ganoon kamahal, siguro natiyempo lang, hindi naman lagi.”
On the other hand, the governor said that they can do nothing about people’s comments. For her, the focus should be on surviving and finding solutions to the problems.
“Ginagawa naman namin yung obligasyon namin. Ginagawa naman namin yung mga dapat nating gawin. Actually, matagal na talaga itong baha na ito, pero 24/7 kaming nagtatrabaho,” she pointed out.
Pineda also pointed out that it was a coincidence that she and her son wore branded OOTDs on the same day, but this was not every day. “Hindi naman kami ganoon. Hindi ako ganoon,” she added.
