Authorities Arrest Caregiver for Stealing P100,000 Ring from Elderly Employer
A 32-year-old caregiver was arrested after allegedly stealing a gold and diamond ring worth P100,000 from her 93-year-old employer in Barangay Culiat, Quezon City.
According to the Quezon City Police District, the suspect had only recently started working as a caregiver in the victim’s home. Reports showed that she was hired on August 23, 2026, after applying for the job online.
The robbery was discovered elderly woman discovered that her valuable ring was missing. Concerned family members and authorities immediately investigated the incident.
“Naggagayak yung victim natin kasi may pupuntahan siya, nag-ayos siya, nung hinahanap na niya yung mga gamit niya, napansin niya wala yung singsing niya. Tinawag niya ngayon yung caregiver na kinuha niya online. Hindi sumasagot Tinawag niya yung secretary niya, hindi na nila makita,” Holy Spirit Police Station commander Police Lieutenant Colonel Wilfredo Fabros Jr said.
During the investigation, the victim learned from a subdivision security guard that the caregiver had left the area several hours earlier.
Although the suspect had already left, she reportedly abandoned some of her personal belongings inside the house where she worked. It became an important lead for investigators as they searched for her whereabouts.
While checking the items left behind, authorities found a gym receipt that contained information that helped them trace the suspect. Using the address connected to the receipt, police were able to locate and arrest her in Fairview, Quezon City the following day.
The stolen ring was successfully recovered from the suspect during the operation. Because of the circumstances surrounding the case, investigators are now looking into the possibility that the woman may have used caregiving jobs as a way to gain access to homes and steal valuables.
Authorities reminded the public to be extra careful when hiring household workers and caregivers. They advised families to verify an applicant’s background, hire through accredited agencies whenever possible, and check important documents such as police or NBI clearances.

The suspect is now under the custody of the Holy Spirit Police Station and is facing a qualified theft complaint. Police said she declined to give a statement regarding the accusation.
