Classroom Used as Evacuation Center in Valenzuela Left Damaged, Teacher Saddened by Condition
A classroom in Valenzuela that was used as an evacuation center was reportedly robbed by some of the evacuees who stayed there.
Recently, a Facebook user, Ariel Namoro Catarina Perino, shared photos of the classroom after it was allegedly ransacked, and some items were reportedly stolen by evacuees. The post quickly went viral and elicited various reactions online.
According to the teacher, the classroom had been opened to residents affected by heavy rains and flooding in recent days. However, when school personnel returned to inspect the room, they were reportedly shocked by what they found.
The photos showed scattered belongings and damaged school property inside the classroom. Among the items reportedly destroyed were an electric fan and a television set. Several chairs were also seen broken and no longer usable.
Aside from the damaged equipment, some of the supplies inside the school’s emergency “Go Bag” were allegedly missing. The bag contained materials intended for students and emergencies, making the loss even more disappointing for school staff.
Teachers expressed frustration because they had been working hard to prepare the classrooms for the upcoming return of students. Instead of focusing solely on cleaning and organizing for the new school year, they were forced to deal with repairs and missing items.
Valenzuela City Mayor Wes Gatchalian personally visited the school. He assured school officials that the damaged equipment would be replaced and said an investigation would be conducted to determine who was responsible for the destruction and disorder.
