LTO Investigates Rider and Passenger After Child Hurt in Road Incident
A motorcycle rider and his passenger were caught in a viral video after they allegedly threw an object at a child.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has launched an investigation against a motorcycle rider and his passenger after they were allegedly involved in an incident that left a child injured while traveling on a public road.
The video showed a child riding in a tricycle with his mother when the rider and his passenger allegedly threw an object that struck the child on the forehead. The child reportedly suffered an injury because of the incident.
Based on the initial information gathered by authorities, a misunderstanding or argument happened before the incident. Reports also indicated that the rider and his passenger continued following the tricycle and were seen recording videos of the victims while they were on the road.
After the video reached the LTO, the agency immediately conducted an investigation to identify the registered owner of the motorcycle and the rider involved. It led to the issuance of a Show Cause Order requiring the individuals to explain their side and submit supporting documents related to the case.
The two were ordered to appear before the LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division on September 29.
The culprits are facing several allegations, including reckless driving, violation of the Anti-Distracted Driving Act, failure to wear standard protective motorcycle helmets, failure to require a passenger to wear an approved helmet, and operating a motorcycle without the required accessories.
Authorities also noted that the motorcycle seen in the video allegedly had no side mirror, while both the rider and passenger were wearing helmets that were not authorized under existing regulations.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the rider’s driver’s license has been placed under a 90-day suspension and must be surrendered to the LTO. The motorcycle has also been placed under alarm status while the case is being processed.
