Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake in Surigao del Norte, September 23, 2026
EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.2 magnitude quake in Surigao del Norte today, September 23, 2026. Here are the details.
Following the 4.2 magnitude earthquake that previously hit Davao Occidental, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. According to the agency, the quake recently hit Surigao del Norte. It has a strong magnitude of 4.2.
The earthquake that struck Surigao del Norte today, September 23, 2026, was tectonic in origin. A tectonic quake is a shaking which is a product when the Earth’s crust breaks because of the geological forces on the rocks and the adjoining plates which result to chemical and physical changes.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Surigao del Norte was located at 09.70°North, 126.08°East – 008 km South 27° East of Dapa. It had a depth of focus of 027 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake neither aftershocks. No intensity was recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. Instrumental Intensity I was recorded in Surigao City, Surigao del Norte.
