Family Loses Newly Purchased Refrigerator and Home in Puerto Princesa Fire
A family expressed their frustration after their newly bought refrigerator has turned into a scrap after a fire destroyed their home.
The fire broke out along Bonifacio Street in Barangay Masipag in Puerto Princesa City, leaving the family with nothing but memories of the house they had spent years building. Among the items lost was a refrigerator that had been in their home for less than a month.
The homeowner, identified as Dodi, said he was working overtime on the night of the incident. While busy at work, he received a phone call informing him that his house was on fire. By the time he learned about the situation, the flames had already spread rapidly.
The family shared that many of their appliances were still being paid for through monthly installments. The loss has made their situation even more difficult because they are now facing payments for items that no longer exist.
Aside from the refrigerator, several household belongings were also destroyed. Because the fire spread so quickly, the family was unable to save any of their possessions. Important items, furniture, appliances, and personal belongings were all lost in the incident.
Despite the loss, the family remains thankful that no one was injured. They consider their safety the most important thing, even as they face the challenge of starting over.
Following the fire, the affected family underwent an assessment by the City Social Welfare and Development Office to determine the assistance they can receive from the local government. Authorities are now working to provide initial support to help them cope with the aftermath of the disaster.
Meanwhile, residents who wish to extend assistance have been encouraged to coordinate directly with the office of Barangay Masipag. Community members are also hoping to help the family rebuild and recover from the tragedy in the days ahead.
