Puerto Princesa Employer Warns Public After Alleged Deception by Household Helper
A household helper in Barangay Sta. Lourdes, Puerto Princesa City allegedly pretends her father died to ask financial aid from employer.
The employer, identified only as Maria, shared her experience involving a household helper known as Jennifer, a 48-year-old woman originally from Negros Occidental who had been living in Roxas, Palawan.
According to Maria, Jennifer had been working for her for only about ten days when she began asking for financial assistance. The helper initially borrowed P8,500, saying she needed money for personal reasons.

However, Maria said the biggest request came when Jennifer reportedly claimed that her father had been seriously injured after being gored by a carabao. She allegedly told her employer that the injury was severe and that her father needed immediate medical treatment.
Out of concern, Maria lent her P10,000 to help cover the supposed hospital expenses. Wanting to help further, the employer even sold a pig so she could provide additional financial support when Jennifer later claimed that her father had passed away.
As time went on, Maria began to notice inconsistencies in the stories she was being told. She eventually discovered that Jennifer’s father was reportedly alive and in good condition, raising questions about the truth of the claims that had been used to obtain money.

Maria also recalled several incidents that made her suspicious, particularly when money-related concerns were brought up. She alleged that whenever she tried to confront Jennifer about missing funds or unpaid debts, the helper would suddenly appear to faint or suffer a medical episode, making it difficult to continue the discussion.
The matter was later reported to the police after the helper allegedly took a knife and walked around outside their subdivision, causing concern among residents.
Jennifer eventually left the household, according to Maria, leaving behind an unpaid debt totaling P19,700. The employer kept some of the helper’s belongings collateral.
The businesswoman urged families and employers to carefully verify the background and character of household helpers before hiring them.
