Tricycle Driver Injured After Neighbor Allegedly Stabs Him Over Coffee Money Request
A 47-year-old tricycle driver was hospitalized after he was allegedly stabbed by a neighbor in Barangay Longos, Malabon City.
On Monday, October 5, 2026, the victim was cleaning his tricycle outside his home when the suspect approached him and asked for money to buy coffee. Residents said the victim had often helped the suspect before by giving small amounts of money whenever he asked.
Wendy Guillermo, the victim’s godmother-in-law who witnessed the incident, said the victim simply pointed the man toward a nearby store and told him to let him know about the purchase.

However, the suspect may have misunderstood the gesture and believed he was being mocked or ignored.
“Nanghiningi raw po ng kape noon. Kasi laging binibigyan ng kumpare ko yun ng pang-kape. Tinuro niya sa tindahan, sabihin mo sa akin. Siguro pagkakaisip (nung suspek) niloloko lang siya. Pagbalik, sinaksak,” said Guillermo.
After a few moments, the suspect returned and suddenly attacked the tricycle driver with a knife. A resident who saw what happened immediately stepped in and tried to stop the assault, preventing the situation from becoming even worse.
Despite being wounded, the victim and several residents attempted to chase the suspect. During the pursuit, witnesses said the suspect pulled out a long bladed weapon and tried to stab the victim again, causing panic among people nearby.
Concerned residents quickly moved children and bystanders away from the area to keep them safe.
Police officers responded to the incident and later arrested the suspect during a follow-up operation. However, authorities have not yet recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the attack.
Barangay officials revealed that the suspect had reportedly been involved in previous violent incidents and was known in the area for having no regular work and frequently roaming around the neighborhood.
The victim remains in the hospital recovering from three stab wounds on his side and back. Meanwhile, the suspect is now under the custody of the Malabon City Police and is facing a frustrated homicide charge.
Authorities have also increased patrols in the community to help prevent similar incidents from happening again.
