Family Luckily Escapes Danger After Fallen Buri Palm Destroys House in Aklan
A family in Agcawilan, Lezo, Aklan, was lucky to escape unharmed after a buri palm tree fell onto their home while they were sleeping.
On early Friday morning, October 9, 2026, the tree broke and crashed into the house where the Cichon family was resting. Although the falling tree caused serious damage to their home, the family members managed to avoid being hit.
According to the couple, Rosiel and Mike Cichon, heavy rain was pouring at the time, but they did not notice any strong winds before the incident happened.
Rosiel was the first to realize that something had gone wrong. She immediately woke her husband, and they quickly checked on their nine-year-old child, who was sleeping in another room.
The family feared for their safety as the tree struck part of their house, including the living room area. Their child could have been trapped or injured if the tree had fallen in a different direction.
Rosiel became emotional as she recalled the frightening experience. Aside from the fear of losing their lives, she also felt devastated because they had only recently finished repairing and completing their home.
The couple reportedly borrowed P25,000 to finish the construction of their house, which was made of light materials. Unfortunately, the falling tree left their newly completed home badly damaged, putting their family in a difficult situation once again.
Despite narrowly escaping the accident, the family now faces the challenge of finding a way to repair their damaged home and recover from the unexpected loss.
The Cichon family is appealing to kind-hearted individuals and members of the public for any assistance that could help them rebuild their home and get back on their feet.
For the family, surviving the incident was a huge relief, but the damage left behind has become another hardship they must overcome.
