Sen. Kiko Pangilinan is not closing the possibllity that Sen. Loren Legarda will change camps
Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan indicated that Senator Loren Legarda could potentially rejoin the Senate majority bloc.
Pangilinan noted that she was originally part of a five-member group that includes several individuals who currently belong to the chamber’s majority
According to Senator Kiko Pangilinan, Senator Loren Legarda was previously aligned with a Senate faction that included senators Tito Sotto, Ping Lacson, Risa Hontiveros, and Lito Lapid, based on the article in The Manila Times.
“She came from that group. As I said, they were originally a solid bloc. We’ll see whether she will transfer or not,” Sen. Kiko Pangilinan said in a recent interview with DWIZ radio.
Following leadership changes in the Senate, Sen. Legarda teamed up with the minority group headed by Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano. However, talks about her potential move back to the majority surfaced after Sen. Mark Villar switched sides on Oct. 8, reducing the minority bloc to just 10 members.
Currently undergoing medical treatment in France, Sen. Legarda has been on official leave since August 3. Meanwhile, her spokesperson Tony La Viña refused to rule out her return to the Senate majority bloc, noting that leadership transitions often cause political realignments.
According to Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian, the camp of Senator Loren Legarda has submitted a request to further extend her medical leave. He said that the female Senator continues receiving medical treatment and taking sufficient rest while dealing with her health condition.
Meanwhile, early this October, Senator Ping Lacson stated that Sen. Legarda regretted siding with Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano. Lacson shared that this was based on his last conversation with Legarda, who admitted that she made a mistake. He told her that this was part of the past already.
