11-Year-Old Honor Student Lost His Life After Being Struck by Lightning While Walking w/ His Mom
An 11-year-old honor student died after being struck by lightning while walking with his mother in Barangay Tuyom, Cauayan.
On Sunday (October 11, 2026), the victim, identified as alias Marvin, was a Grade 5 pupil and a resident of Sitio Buclao in the same barangay. His sudden death has left his family grieving the loss of a young boy who dreamed of finishing his studies and helping them overcome poverty.
According to his mother, 57-year-old Nida Lobaton, they had just come from her other child’s house in Sitio Candavid and were on their way home. Before leaving, Marvin had taken time to fix his hair, change into his clothes, apply perfume, and prepare for the trip. They also planned to pick up his father, who was working on a farm.

The weather was still clear when they started walking. Nida said she was about a few steps away from her son when lightning suddenly struck. She then saw Marvin fall to the ground.
At first, she thought he had simply stumbled. However, when she realized what had happened, she immediately rushed to him and tried to carry him. She later moved toward a nearby sugarcane field and climbed a small tree to call for help, but the heavy rain made it difficult for anyone to hear her cries.
More than 30 minutes passed before rescuers arrived. Marvin was rushed to a hospital, but he died a few minutes later.

Nida remembered her son as a bright, kind, and well-behaved child who avoided fighting with others. She said one thing she would always remember was his promise to finish school and help their family escape poverty.
His death has brought deep sorrow to his loved ones, who are now facing both emotional pain and financial difficulties.
Because of their limited means, the family is asking for financial assistance to help cover Marvin’s funeral and burial expenses as they prepare to lay their beloved child to rest.
