Investigators gathered information from an eyewitness who recounted how the farmer was plowing the field when he accidentally struck the carabao he was using for the agricultural work.

The impact reportedly caused the animal to become agitated, prompting it to turn against the farmer. The carabao then attacked him, inflicting a severe injury to his head.

The farmer’s condition quickly became critical, leading to his transportation to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts to bring him for medical treatment, he did not survive the injuries he sustained during the encounter.

Major Al-Nico Haman, chief of police of Don Carlos MPS, confirmed that authorities acted promptly after the victim’s brother personally went to the police station to report the incident.

Following the report, police personnel proceeded to verify the farmer’s condition at the hospital where he had been taken.

Authorities initially focused their investigation on the circumstances surrounding the attack, including the eyewitness account describing what happened while the victim was plowing the farmland.

The incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers farmers face when working with livestock and using animals for agricultural activities. Even animals commonly used to assist with farm work can become dangerous when startled, irritated, or provoked.

Carabaos remain important to many Filipino farmers, particularly in rural communities where they are traditionally used to help cultivate fields. However, incidents involving agitated livestock can result in serious injuries or fatalities.

The farmer’s death highlights the risks associated with handling farm animals, especially during physically demanding agricultural tasks. Authorities have documented the initial findings as they continue to establish the circumstances that led to the fatal encounter in Don Carlos, Bukidnon.
