DepEd to Investigate Incident After Student Falls While Cleaning School Roof
A 12-year-old student fell from the roof after being instructed by a teacher to clean it, the teacher reportedly blamed the student for the accident.
Recently, the Facebook page Ipabitagmo Inc. shared photos of the injured student, who allegedly fell from the roof after being asked by a teacher to help with cleaning. The post quickly went viral and drew strong reactions from netizens online.
According to the student’s mother, Baby Jane Laggui, her son CJ suffered a serious injury after falling while cleaning. The accident reportedly left the boy with a fractured shoulder that required medical attention. His mother said she traveled from Isabela after learning about what had happened to her child.
Based on the complaint, the student was allegedly asked to help clean an area of the school before the arrival of visitors. Reports claimed that the cleaning activity involved going up to the roof area of a classroom. During the process, the child reportedly fell and sustained injuries.
The case gained further attention after anti-crime and fraud advocate Ben Tulfo, through BITAG, spoke with the teacher involved. The teacher reportedly denied ordering the student to climb onto the roof.
According to her explanation, the student supposedly volunteered to help with the cleaning activity and personally decided to use a metal ladder obtained from the principal’s office.
However, the explanation has been questioned by the student’s family and supporters, who believe school authorities should still be accountable for ensuring the safety of children while inside school grounds.
Reports indicate that both the teacher and the school principal maintain that they were not responsible for the accident.
Meanwhile, the case has already been brought before the Department of Education Region III by concerned groups. Authorities are expected to conduct a formal investigation to determine whether school policies and safety measures were properly followed.
