2 Elementary Pupils Lost Their Lives During School Fun Run in Cauayan City
Two elementary pupils lost their lives and two others were injured in an alleged electrocution incident during a school fun run in Cauayan City.
On Saturday morning (October 3, 2026), the children were reportedly participating in an area filled with bubbles when an electrical problem, believed to be caused by a short circuit or grounding, happened.
The incident took place around 6:20 a.m. at Cauayan South Central School. Four children were immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment. Despite efforts to save them, an eight-year-old boy and a seven-year-old girl were declared dead at around 6:52 a.m.
Meanwhile, a six-year-old child remained conscious and under medical observation. Another pupil, a nine-year-old child, was treated and later discharged from the hospital.
The Department of Education Schools Division Office of Cauayan City confirmed the deaths of the two learners. Education officials said they are now coordinating with the local government and other concerned agencies to provide the necessary assistance and support to the affected families.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine exactly what caused the incident. Investigators are examining the electrical connections and equipment used during the activity, including the bubble and color machines.
They are also checking whether all required safety measures were properly followed before and during the event.
As the investigation continues, school officials and education authorities are working closely with law enforcement and local officials to gather all relevant information.
House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy also visited the school and spoke with responding police officers to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In the meantime, the Department of Education and school administrators have urged the public to avoid speculation and refrain from spreading unverified information. They also asked everyone to respect the privacy of the children and their families while authorities continue their investigation into the heartbreaking incident.
