Ceiling Collapses at Muntinlupa Mall, Two Teenagers Injured
Two teenagers got injured after being struck by the falling debris as the ceiling at a mall in Tunasan, Muntinlupa City, collapsed.
Recently, Rachel Esperida Reyes, a Facebook user, shared a video showing a man who was hit by the collapsed ceiling and was immediately assisted by mall security guards. The post quickly went viral and drew various reactions online.
On Saturday afternoon, August 8, 2026, a portion of a ceiling at SM City Tunasan in Barangay Tunasan, collapsed during heavy rainfall in Muntinlupa City. According to reports, the incident occurred at around 4:40 p.m. while rain continued to pour outside.
Authorities believe the continuous heavy rainfall may have contributed to the ceiling collapse. The victims, a 16-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl, were reportedly walking around the mall when debris from the ceiling suddenly fell on them.
The incident left both teenagers injured and in need of immediate medical attention. The boy, a resident of Multiland 2, suffered an injury to his forehead. Reports also stated that a small object struck one of his eyes during the collapse.
Meanwhile, the teenage girl from Esporlas Itaas sustained injuries that may have caused a dislocation in her right shoulder.
Mall security officers immediately assisted the victims and brought them to Divine Mercy Hospital for treatment. Their quick response helped ensure that the injured teenagers received medical care as soon as possible.
Many shoppers inside the mall were alarmed by the incident, especially since it happened during a busy weekend afternoon. Some people expressed concern about safety measures in public places, particularly during periods of severe weather.
Authorities and mall management are expected to continue assessing the area to determine the exact cause of the collapse and to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported during the incident.
