Van Accident Hits 2-Year-Old Boy in Caloocan
A two-year-old boy was injured after being hit and run over by a closed van along Crispulo Street on Sanana Road in Caloocan City.
Around 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, the child suddenly crossed the road while a closed van was passing through the area. The vehicle struck the young boy, causing him to fall onto the street. Both the front and rear wheels of the van reportedly passed over him.
The driver immediately stopped the vehicle after the accident. Residents nearby rushed to the scene after hearing the commotion and quickly checked on the child.
The boy’s grandmother said the child had been playing near the area when he suddenly ran toward the road. She explained that there was someone watching him at the time and noted that the van was not moving at a high speed.
Barangay officials said the child was immediately brought to a hospital by a tricycle that was traveling behind the van. Meanwhile, the 51-year-old driver voluntarily went with authorities and cooperated with the investigation.
According to the driver, he was startled because the child suddenly crossed in front of the vehicle. He only realized something had happened after feeling the wheel go over an object. The driver later surrendered himself to authorities while the incident was being investigated.
“Ayon po sa salaysay ng driver, nabigla siya kaya niya nabangga. Bigla po kasing tumawid yung bata, hindi niya napansin. Nagulat na lang siya tumalbog ‘yung gulong niya, ‘yun pala may bata. ‘Yung driver nag-voluntary surrender na po sa district,” Barangay 180 Public Safety Office team leader Gerry Cañeza said.
Despite the frightening accident, the child is now in stable condition and continues to recover in the hospital. Family members shared that he has already started eating and playing again, bringing relief to relatives and neighbors who were deeply concerned after the incident.
Police said both parties eventually reached an agreement after the driver offered to shoulder the child’s medical expenses.
Barangay officials increased monitoring along Sanana Road and reminded parents and guardians to keep a close watch on young children, especially in busy areas frequently used by motorists traveling between Caloocan, Bulacan, and Quezon City.
