3 Minors in Puerto Princesa City Hospitalized After Cooking and Eating Toxic Mushrooms
Three minors from Barangay Sta. Monica in Puerto Princesa City were rushed to the hospital after eating mushrooms that were believed to be poisonous.
On August 28, 2026, the three young people reportedly picked the mushrooms in Barangay Irawan. They brought them home, cooked them, and later ate them without knowing that they could be harmful.
According to Ruda Tindog, one of the people who quickly responded to the incident, two of the minors had already started vomiting when they were found. The third was reportedly feeling dizzy and weak.
Their condition became more serious after they were brought to a medical facility. The minors reportedly became restless and difficult to control, with their behavior appearing unusual. Medical workers had to secure their hands and feet for their safety while they were being treated and monitored.
The said mushrooms as a toxic type known as Panaeolus mushrooms. These mushrooms are often found growing in grassy areas and places where animal waste is present.
Panaeolus mushrooms should not be eaten because some species may contain harmful substances that can affect the body and brain. Eating toxic mushrooms can lead to stomach pain, vomiting, dizziness, confusion, and hallucinations. In serious cases, mushroom poisoning may require immediate medical attention.
Fortunately, the three minors recovered after spending several days under medical observation. They were eventually discharged from the hospital and are now reported to be in good condition.
